These public kindergartens do not charge fees but they ask that families contribute to the running costs by donating approximately $3 – $5 a session. Children can be enrolled after two years of age and visits are welcome if you want to drop in and check the kindergarten out. All kindergarten teachers are fully trained and registered. Session times vary but are generally two and a half to three hours long, three to five sessions a week.

Playcentre - Clyde Clyde Playcentre is open Monday - Thursday mornings. Our centre is a friendly, family-orientated Early Childhood Education provider running mixed age sessions. We have a great environment with a big outdoor playground, a fully enclosed veranda, and several spaces inside allowing for a variety of activities to be going on, all at once!

Little Wonders Childcare (Oamaru) is a large, high-performing, privately-owned centre that has been in operation for five years. It provides care and education for children from three months to school age.

This New Zealand parent co-operative provides early childhood education for children from birth to school age. The sessions are two and a half hours long and are run by parents with a ratio of adults to children from 1:5 to 1:3. There are 14 playcentres throughout the Coromandel region so call them or check the website to find others in your area. Costs vary up to $50 for a ten week term but each playcentre has their own fees, so contact the individual playcentre for more information.

The Ponsonby Community Centre is a non-profit organization which provides a stimulating and friendly environment for preschool aged children. They offer morning, afternoon or full day sessions and a minimum booking of two sessions applies.

Between 20 and 30 families are enrolled at this playcentre which is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac and has an outdoor area for both dry and wet days. There is also a large sandpit and grassy patch ideal for obstacle courses or waterslides.
